Puma recorded on camera trap, Neblina Reserve

There have been several sightings of puma at Neblina Reserve. Across the continent, populations vary between 0.5 and 7 individuals per 100 kmĀ², so it is likely that the same individual cats are being seen. Below is footage of a puma caught on camera trap inside the Reserve in 2015.

The adaptable cat

Pumas are a highly adaptable species and can be found in a broad range of habitats including all forest types and even lowland and montane desert. Although studies have shown that they prefer habitat with dense understory vegetation such as the cloud forest, Pumas can also live in more open habitats.

The puma also has the largest geographic range of any terrestrial mammal in the Western Hempisphere: from Canada right through to the southern tip of Chile.
