Luis Hernández (1951-2025)

We are very sad to report the loss of our Ecuadorian friend Luis Hernández on Sunday after a battle with cancer. Luis had an extraordinary military career: hero of the war with Peru, head of Ecuador’s Special Forces, director of the Military Academy, made a general and most recently Minister for Defence. Unusually for a military man he was a committed environmental conservationist and for the past 26 years greatly assisted Rainforest Concern's work in Ecuador.
