In a groundbreaking achievement for environmental conservation, Acción Andina, an organisation founded by ECOAN (Asociación Ecosistemas Andinos) has been awarded the prestigious Earthshot Prize. This recognition comes as a testament to their efforts in addressing the pressing challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss. ECOAN is a key partner of Rainforest Concern, having first formed our partnership in 2005.
The Earthshot Prize, initiated by Prince William and The Royal Foundation, aims to incentivise solutions to the world's most pressing environmental problems over the next decade.
Acción Andina was founded by US non-profit Global Forest Generation (GFG) and Peruvian non-profit Asociación Ecosistemas Andinos (ECOAN) in 2018. Since then, they have planted almost 10 million native trees in five countries – restoring over 4,000 hectares of Andean forests and protecting more than 11,000 hectares of native forest. Their activities are helping thousands of people by increasing food and water security, providing new income opportunities, and contributing to more sustainable management of natural resources.
Rainforest Concern, a longstanding partner of ECOAN, applauds the recognition of Acción Andina through the Earthshot Prize. The collaborative efforts of these organisations showcase the effectiveness of uniting forces to tackle the complex challenges facing our planet.
